Emotions are a mystery to me.

Recently the weight loss industry made an amazing discovery. Overweight people do not know the difference between a feeling and a craving.

A number of emotions are experienced in our stomach.

We use phrases like “gut feeling” “butterflies in my stomach,” and “my stomach is tied in knots.”

The advertisers know this and respond with comfort food and celebration cakes.

God gave us emotions so that we can make smart decisions.

If you are going to experience freedom from food addiction there are two things you need to know. First of all, your emotions are not going to stop coming. They originate deep within a part of the brain called the limbic system. In fact, the brain creates emotions before you can put words to them or even make sense of them.

The second thing you need to know is that emotions are an opportunity to explore your deepest beliefs. A leading psychotherapist, who works in the area of addiction, discovered that all of her clients held the same deep-seated belief. They “felt” that they were not enough.

You can apply that wherever you want. They were not enough to meet their family’s needs. They were not enough to hold down a good job.

At its deepest level it can be applied to God. You were created by God and for God. Therefore, you are good enough for Him.

That’s a good place to start. You can work it out. Start with God. Then apply it to all the people that God brought into your life. Eventually this exercise will start affecting the emotions you do daily battle with.

God bless you.
